Our homes are our havens, our oasis from the daily grind, and the one place where we always want to feel safe. Sadly, though, it isn’t always the case. Burglaries and home invasions are on the rise. These days home security systems are a must. There are a wide variety to choose from, and you should do so carefully, taking into account your family’s needs. It’s best to get one that is multifaceted and protects you in case of fire and medical emergencies too. If you have young children or elderly folks in your home, a security system that alerts you when exterior doors are opened from the inside and has a webcam to let you check in from any device is ideal. Some will even alert you when your children arrive home from school or when someone rings your doorbell.
Aside from a good security system, there are other things you should do to make your home safer. Keep walkways and porches well lit at night and shrubbery trimmed to remove potential hiding places for thieves. If a stranger knocks on your door, don’t open it, and make sure you have solid, well built exterior doors with a good lock and deadlock. Being proactive is the best defense!
